Free Preview: “...probably the best newsletter on search engine promotion in the world.” This month's issue osCommerce Sitemap Creator ScriptImprove Search Engine Indexing Of osCommerce Catalog SitesThe sitemap protocol is used by the search engines to find and index the pages on your site. The protocol is currently used by the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Ask.com) to find pages to index. The sitemap file is easy to create for small sites but osCommerce sites often have hundreds (or thousands) of products in their database meaning sitemap creation must be done by a script. I have written a script to read your osCommerce database and use that data to create a standards compliant sitemap file. The sitemap file contains the URLs of all product and category pages in your store. This script only reads data from your database, it doesn't change your database in any way. The script is a standalone file which can be run whenever your database changes. Installing and using the script does not require any changes to your osCommerce pages, there is no danger of causing problems in a functioning store. For more information about this script and using it for your store, please contact me for a quotation. If your site uses a MySQL database but doesn't use osCommerce, we can write a custom sitemap script for your site, see: Sitemaps From A MySQL Database Script Free Sitemap Generator OnlineFor simple sites which don't use a database, generate your sitemap with our free online form. More information about the sitemaps protocolTo view an actual sitemap of our osCommerce demonstration store, download the osCommerce demonstration sitemap, this is a small (5 kb) compressed gzip file and needs to be uncompressed for viewing. Two recent articles about the sitemap protocol Google, Yahoo And Microsoft Team Up For Sitemaps Protocol and Sitemaps Protocol Supported By Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask.
